After 40 years of reform and opening up,China has gradually become the world's largest manufacturing country, and its economic development has entered a "new normal".At the same time, the wave of intelligence is sweeping the world. How to improve the total factor productivity of the manufacturing industry and promote the high-end transformation and upgrading of the manufacturing industry has become an important task for China's economic development.Firstly, this paper reviews the literature on the influence of intelligence on total factor productivity of manufacturing industry.Secondly, based on the provincial panel data from 2003 to 2016,it measures and analyzes the development status of Chinese manufacturing industry's intelligence and total factor productivity.Thirdly, the theoretical model of the influence of intelligence on the total factor productivity of manufacturing industry is established to explore its internal mechanism. Finally, based on the panel data model, the influence of intelligentization on total factor productivity of Chinese manufacturing industry is empirically analyzed.Based on the above research, this paper draws the following conclusions and policy Suggestions:The intelligence measurement results show that during the study period, the intelligence of China's manufacturing industry shows an overall growth trend, with an average annual increase of 22.68%.The intelligence of manufacturing industry has developed rapidly, but there is regional heterogeneity. The average intelligent index in the eastern region is the highest, followed by the central region, and the average intelligent index in the western region is the lowest. The measurement results of total factor productivity of manufacturing industry show that the annual growth rate of total factor productivity of manufacturing industry in China is 8.0%,but the overall growth rate shows a downward trend.Total factor productivity grew fastest in the western region, followed by the central and eastern regions. The overall average of total factor productivity in China's manufacturing industry is 0.655,which is relatively low.Total factor productivity is highest in the eastern region, followed by the central region and lowest in the western region. The mechanism analysis of the influence of intelligence on total factor productivity of manufacturing industry shows that intelligence promotes the growth of total factor productivity of China's manufacturing industry, and this promotion is realized by promoting the technological progress and technical efficiency of manufacturing industry.Intelligentization can effectively improve the speed and efficiency of knowledge spillover, knowledge absorption and knowledge creation in manufacturing enterprises, and promote the progress of the overall technological level of manufacturing enterprises. At the same time, intelligentization can improve the labor productivity, capital return and management level of enterprises, and promote the growth of technical efficiency of manufacturing industry. The empirical analysis of the influence of intelligence on total factor productivity of manufacturing industry shows that intelligence significantly promotes the growth of total factor productivity of China's manufacturing industry, and this positive effect is mainly realized by promoting the growth of technological progress. The regression results by region show that intelligence has the strongest effect on total factor productivity of manufacturing industry in the central region, followed by the western region and the eastern region.Based on the research results, this paper puts forward the following policy Suggestions:(1)improve the promotion effect of intelligence on technical efficiency;(2)promoting differentiated development in eastern, central and western regions;(3)to provide a loose policy environment for intelligent development;(4)guide colleges and universities to provide intelligent talents and intellectual support.
