Abstract/Summary:
This thesis presents the development and laboratory implementation of a hybrid fuzzy bang-bang controller for motion control industry and private automation. The real-time laboratory implementation is based on a dSPACE DSP and MATLAB/Simulink environment. First, the design, analysis, and implementation of a fuzzy bang-bang controller are discussed. Fuzzy logic rules are used to enable an improved version of the traditional bang-bang control. A modified Bang-Bang controller is also designed and implemented. This controller is tested under the same conditions as the proposed fuzzy bang-bang controller. Its performance is used as a basis of comparison by which the proposed controllers are measured.;Second, a hybrid fuzzy bang-bang switching controller is also developed. This controller combines the excellent response to disturbance of the fuzzy bang-bang controller with the good steady state control and simplicity of traditional bang-bang controller. A Fuzzy bang-bang controller and a modified, three-state bang-bang controller are used in parallel. The system is designed so that the modifed bang-bang controller is the dominant controller during steady state conditions, and the fuzzy bang-bang controller only "takes the reins" if disturbance or oscillation is detected. The bang-bang controller would resume overall control after the measured output tracks the input again.;The proposed fuzzy bang-bang and hybrid fuzzy bang-bang switching controllers are shown to possess excellent response to rapidly changing reference signals, as well as excellent steady state response with respect to the modified traditional bang-bang controller. This good performance is coupled with relatively simple and easily implemented designs which can be operated by a human controller with little knowledge of the drive system being controlled.
