Abstract/Summary:
ADVISOR is designed for rapid analysis of the performance and fuel economy of conventional and advanced, light and heavy-duty vehicle models as well as hybrid electric and fuel cell vehicle models. It tests the effect of parameter changes in vehicle components (such as motors, batteries, catalytic converters, climate control systems, and alternative fuels) and other modifications that might affect fuel economy, performance or emissions.;The simulations that ADVISOR runs are meant to predict the performance of various energy sources in road vehicles. The simulations are largely based on empirical data (data acquired via laboratory experiments) of these various energy sources; including internal combustion engines, batteries, ultra-capacitors, and fuel cells. Various parameters of the vehicle, power train, and energy sources can be modified and those changes analyzed through ADVISOR.;The main focus of this study is to create new fuel cell models for ADVISOR and to study how the fuel cell models impact vehicle acceleration, gradability, speed, emissions and fuel economy of a typical automobile. If possible we would like to incorporate fuel cell models developed at NIU. The models will be developed with Matlab&Simulink and conclusions will be based on simulation data.
