Next generation Soldier Tactical Mission Systems (STMS) will require high amounts of energy to operate, and in its first version, the Land Warrior (LW), the energy usage will need optimization to maximize operating times of the equipment. The aim of this research is to create an energy management hardware tool for optimal control of energy consumption, thus enhancing LW's endurance and range.;An Autonomous Energy Management Device (AEMD) is proposed that can perform several functions: harvest/manage energy from several sources, provide controlled output of energy as determined by the host equipment, and relay pertinent information back to the user. The AEMD needs to be light and autonomous, and has the following functions: (1) Optimally allocate energy to prioritized loads; (2) Monitor and display energy sources levels; (3) Monitor and display real time feedback of energy flows; (4) Be adaptable to different sources and load types; (5) Allow the user to set priorities.;The AEMD development will be separated in two, the software and the hardware parts. The first part will be done using Matlab and the second will be a microcontroller coded with CSS C:.
