The purpose of this descriptive study was to determine the factors that influence the choice of a profession, by the former students who were member of the state board of director of the national FFA organization, Puerto Rico Association during the years 1990 to 2000. The populations of the study were 68 former members of the Organization that completed a questionnaire, which were provided to them by regular mail, email, meetings, interviews and phone calls. The information obtained was analyzed using SPSS (Statistic Program for Social Science). The results of the study indicate that the majority of students, selected traditional occupations not related to agricultural education. Although a high percentage reported having a positive perception about a career in agricultural education, most did not select it as their alternative of study or occupation. The results could help to improve the design of local programs, recruitment and curricular innovations. |
