This study builds on previous research (Lippa, 2007) by comparing the ideal traits sought in romantic partners, and friends. Thirteen traits that are central to relationships were examined. Based on a college student sample (N=158), all traits were more important in romantic relationships than both friendships. Lastly, gender differences were expected and it was found that females rated most traits to be more important in romantic partners than either of the two friendship types than males. This study provides further insight into the distinguishing features of romantic relationships and friendships. |
