The Research On College Students' Romantic Relationship And Personality Traits Of 45 Student Couples

Romantic relationship is an important interpersonal relationship which most of college students would experience.Someone even treat it as a necessity of college life.Since the love of college students is less affected by some practical issues,such as material conditions,personality characteristic becomes the key factor which affects the romantic relationship of college students.Objective: We take college students as the objects of study,to discuss the relationship among romantic relationship,personality traits and the couple's difference in personality traits.Research methods: This study selects college students,who are in love,as subjects to do research on two aspects.The first study last for half a year.We issued cartel sixteen personality factor test and "Locke Wallace" marriage(love)commissioning measurement scale to College Students' couple.The results are recalled to get personality factors and romantic relationship satisfaction data of college couples,for correlation analysis and regression analysis by using software SPSS 22.0.We visited all the participants half a year later,to check the couples' love status,and do further analyze on the relation between breakup and personality traits.In the second study,we conducted an in-depth interviews to the participants and do qualitative analysis,to acknowledge some important factors which influence the romantic relationship.The main research results:(1)Couple show significant correlation between personality traits include: factor independence(r=0.409,p<0.01),cowardice and resolute(r=0.305,p<0.05).(2)The male romantic relationship satisfaction has significantly related personality traits include: male's factor stability(r=0.446,p<0.01),boldness(r=0.305,p<0.05),suspicion(r=-0.294,p<0.05),experiment(r=-0.351,p<0.05),tension(r=-0.424,p<0.01),adaptability and anxiousness(r=-0.456,p<0.01),mental health(r=0.387,p<0.01),academic achievement(r=0.326,p<0.05),female's factor suspicion(r=-0.352,p<0.05)and the difference between the couple on factor stability(r=0.385,p<0.01).(3)The female romantic relationship satisfaction has significantly related personality traits include: male's factor stability(r=0.424,p<0.01),boldness(r=0.295,p<0.05),fantasy(r=0.310,p<0.05),self-discipline(r=0.394,p<0.01),tension(r=-0.377,p<0.05),adaptability and anxiousness(r=-0.403,p<0.01),mental health(r=0.309,p<0.05),academic achievement(r=0.441,p<0.01),creative personality(r=0.313,p<0.05),the ability to grow up in new environment(r=0.299,p<0.05),female' factor excitability(r=-0.304,p<0.05)and the difference between the couple on factor boldness(r=0.303,p<0.05),fantasy(r=0.296,p<0.05),self-discipline(r=0.430,p<0.01),tension(r=-0.305,p<0.05),adaptability and anxiousness(r=-0.383,p<0.01),mental health(r=0.320,p<0.05),academic achievement(r=0.295,p<0.05).(4)The difference between couple romantic relationship satisfaction has significantly related personality traits include: male's factor excitability(r=0.338,p<0.05),fantasy(r=-0.310,p<0.05),female' factor gregarious(r=0.328,p<0.05),sensibility(r=0.305,p<0.05),emotions and serene alert(r=-0.405,p<0.01)and the difference between the couple on factor gregarious(r=-0.334,p<0.05),self-discipline(r=-0.378,p<0.05).(5)The male romantic relationship conflict related to personality traits include: male's factor suspicion(r=0.368,p<0.05),tension(r=0.383,p<0.01),adaptability and anxiousness(r=0.358,p<0.05),female's factor strength(r=0.297,p<0.05),suspicion(r=0.454,p<0.01),tension(r=0.447,p<0.01),adaptability and anxiousness(r=0.407,p<0.01),cowardice and resolute(r=0.305,p<0.05)and the difference between the couple on factor strength(r=-0.295,p<0.01),perseverance(r=0.313,p<0.05),cowardice and resolute(r=-0.367,p<0.01).(6)The female romantic relationship conflict related to personality traits include: male's factor self-discipline(r=-0.402,p<0.01),tension(r=0.387,p<0.01),adaptability and anxiousness(r=0.305,p<0.05),academic achievement(r=-0.314,p<0.05),the ability to grow up in new environment(r=-0.336,p<0.05),female's factor stability(r=-0.312,p<0.05),perseverance(r=-0.473,p<0.01),suspicion(r=0.469,p<0.01),anxiety(r=0.397,p<0.01),tension(r=0.452,p<0.01),adaptability and anxiousness(r=0.429,p<0.01),the ability to grow up in new environment(r=-0.337,p<0.05)and the difference between the couple on factor perseverance(r=0.327,p<0.05),independence(r=-0.328,p<0.05),self-discipline(r=-0.325,p<0.05),cowardice and resolute(r=-0.426,p<0.01).(7)In the regression analysis of the male students' love satisfaction,the male students' adaptability and anxiousness,experiment and quarrel frequency enter the equation,together explained 42.2% of the male students' love satisfaction.In the regression analysis of the female students' love satisfaction,the male students' academic achievement enter the equation,explained 17.6% of the female students' love satisfaction.In the regression analysis of the difference between couple romantic relationship satisfaction,the difference between the couple on factor gregarious and self-discipline enter the equation,explained 20.7% of the difference between couple romantic relationship satisfaction.(8)There was a significant difference between the breaking up group and the non breakup group on the difference between the couple on factor fantasy(t=-2.265,p<0.05).The main conclusions:(1)Male romantic relationship satisfaction mainly associated with their own personality traits,female romantic relationship satisfaction mainly associated with their partner's personality traits.(2)Difference between college students' personality traits among college students has more influence on female students' romantic relationship satisfaction.(3)The end of the romantic relationship among college students is less affected by the personality differences between lovers.
