Abstract/Summary:
The purpose of this project was to examine the assets and uncover the needs of adult individuals experiencing homelessness in Long Beach's 90813 zip code. After conducting an extensive review of literature, four domains of risk factors were identified: (a) economic, (b) individual, (c) community, and (d) institutional. The most current data available from federal, state, county, and city sources were sought out, gathered, and analyzed across those four domains. Upon analysis, areas of need included affordable housing, job training and educational support, services for survivors of intimate partner violence, increased access to existing support services for individuals experiencing homelessness, emergency housing, coordinated release programs, and expanded access to low-cost health care.;Opportunities for social workers to assist in tackling this issue are numerous, including advocacy, direct service, and education. Future research should focus on developing new data collection programs as well as improving existing data collection programs. The evidence collected from said programs would inform policy, create jobs, and result in better services to meet the needs of individuals experiencing and at risk of experiencing homelessness in Long Beach's 90813 zip code and beyond.
