Abstract/Summary:
There are currently four different generations present in the Alberta Public Service; the Veterans, Baby Boomers, Generation X and Generation Y. This research project will explore the differences between the diverse generations working in Alberta Municipal Affairs and Housing, a ministry within the Alberta Public Service. To truly appreciate the generational diversity of the organization, it is important to understand the unique attitudes, expectations and characteristics of each generation and to examine whether current leadership practices and human resource policies demonstrate an understanding of and sensitivity to each generation while preserving the integrity of the organization. The results of this research will provide an opportunity for Alberta Municipal Affairs and Housing and perhaps other ministries within the Alberta Public Service, to acknowledge and support an inclusive culture in which generational differences are recognized and leveraged, creating a strong competitive edge as an employer of choice.
