Abstract/Summary:
This paper examines which group is more effective at performing peacekeeping missions in post-Cold War Africa - the United Nations or separate great powers not operating under UN control. It considers four cases: Somalia, Mozambique, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Sierra Leone, analyzes the operations conducted within those countries and provides overall assessments.
