Abstract/Summary:
This research examines social disorganization theory using spatial analysis of jury populations at the census tract level. This study employs 2005 jury data from Cook County, Illinois and 2000 Census data, in an attempt to explore the link between length of jury duty and the geographical location of juror residence. Spatial autocorrelation and spatial regression are utilized in the form of cluster maps (LISA), scatter plots (Moran's I), OLS regression, and spatial error modeling. The results show that race/ethnicity, gender, poverty, residential mobility/stability, and the type of household influence the length of jury service at the census tract level.
