| Human and traditional security are often treated as diametrically opposite conceptions of security. However, recent international phenomena have threatened both the individual and the state in cases such as terrorism, humanitarian intervention and natural disasters. Therefore, it can be understood that these theories are actually mutually interdependent concepts. In other words, human and traditional security have a relationship where insecurity within one framework creates insecurity within the other. Recognizing this reality, this thesis develops a synthesised model that incorporates both theories to create a comprehensive theory of security studies.;To test this synthesised model, the thesis examines the contemporary relationship between India-Pakistan. Because of their three wars, numerous conflicts, and tense diplomatic activity, India and Pakistan have been understood as a typical traditional security case study. However, by applying the synthesised theory of human and traditional security, it will be concluded that even the India-Pakistan case study can benefit from the explanatory power of a synthesised model. To accomplish this task, the thesis examines the threats to security, their effect on both individuals and the state, and the means to providing security in the region. |
