Abstract/Summary:
In 2007 one cannot understand a community without being constantly aware of the globalization phenomenon. Economy, politics, and cultural flows seem to be the aspects that mold contemporary cultures. The case of a Romanian shepherd village, apparently geographically isolated up in the mountains is an example of how globalization works and affects the local cultures. Most of the families make their living producing and selling cheese in the urban areas nearby. The social structure, traditional values, relation of power, and norms are changing under the pressure of the European Union. Ethnical and cultural survival is a question to which the answer lies in their power to cope with the new European pressure.
