Abstract/Summary:
This study determined the difference of a 24-hour shift on the eating habits and physical activity of United States Air Force Missile Combat Crew Members. Crew members from one United States Air Force base were studied. A 17-question Diet and Exercise Questionnaire was used along with a consecutive 7-day Food, Exercise and Sleep Record. Seventeen crew members completed the survey; of those 17, twelve crew members also completed the food and physical activity record. Composition, frequency, and time of meals were assessed along with duration and intensity of exercise. Results indicated that the composition of meals on the 24-hour shift vs. off the 24-hour shift differed only in relation to fiber intake, which was higher while on-alert. Frequency and time of meals were not affected. The duration of exercise while on the 24-hour shift was significantly lower than while off the 24-hour shift.
