| There has been increasing research and interest in how students learn French as a second language (F8L). Dialogue and research on c1assroom interaction has revealed significant indicators that language learning occurs through interaction. This study presents an analysis of learning strategies used by adult learners of F8L and their instructors in a university setting. The study also looks at interactive formats that influence participants' choice of strategies in resolving linguistic or communicative obstacles in the F8L c1assroom. By increasing instructors' and students' awareness of interactional phenomena taking place in the classroom, we wish to contribute to the more recent innovative dialogue on the F8L c1assroom. Analysis of our data and a discussion of the results confirm our statements relative to the value of learning strategies in a context of language learning through interaction by adult learners.;Keywords.
