Abstract/Summary:
The purpose of this study was to see how online collaboration among teachers would facilitate the process of curriculum mapping as a means of improving the mathematics curriculum at a private, K-8 elementary school. Data was gathered and analyzed prior to and after a 1-day professional development in-service on curriculum mapping in order to assess the curriculum from the two previous years and the teachers' attitudes, knowledge, and practices regarding curriculum mapping. By using Google Docs to generate electronic curriculum maps, the faculty members then worked collaboratively to address gaps and redundancies in the previous years' curricula. This study was a benefit to St. Bruno Catholic School because it enabled the teachers to more successfully align the mathematics curriculum to the current state standards for each grade. In addition, teachers felt greater ownership over the curriculum and realized the importance of face-to-face and online collaboration.
