Abstract/Summary:
The purpose of this study was to determine what first year student-athletes have more motivation, athletics, academics or a career. As part of this study, the researcher collected data from a specific cohort of current Indiana University of Pennsylvania students who are also a member of a Division II NCAA athlete. Those athletes included participants in the sport of, softball, women's soccer, baseball, women's field hockey, football, women's volleyball, men's and women's track, men's golf, men and women's swimming, women's tennis, women's lacrosse, men's and women's basketball and finally men and women's cross country. The age range for this study were student-athletes between 18 to 24 years' old.;To complete this project, the researchers used the Student Athlete's Motivation toward Sports and Academics Questionnaire (SAMSAQ) survey (Appendix D & E). The survey, along with study details, was presented and completed by the student-athletes in their KHSS 143 class.
