Abstract/Summary:
This thesis is intended to explore if email is the most effective form of communication in a medium-sized (150 employees) independent family-owned retail organization. Employees from various departments and levels within the organization were invited to participate in 30-minute in-depth employee interviews to serve as an adequate sampling of the organization. This qualitative study explains how employees portray email usage as well as suggestions to make email use more efficient and effective for the organization. Topics explored were proper email use, media richness, in-box clutter, email training for employees and how proper email use can save the company significantly. Through proper email usage employees can become better communicators and more productive. This thesis is meant to help organizations maximize employees' email communication and reduce clutter.
