Urban sprawl in Reno-Sparks, Washoe County, Nevada

This thesis is a study of the issue of urban sprawl, and looks to examine if this issue exists in the Reno and Sparks area in Washoe County, Nevada based upon causes of urban sprawl that will be defined and supported within this thesis. Data was collected relevant to the causes of urban sprawl as defined by this thesis. Most evidence, points to some level of urban sprawl occurring in this area, according to the six contributing factors discussed in this thesis. The strongest evidence for support of the six defined factors is consumer preference for a low-density living environment consisting of a single family dwelling, as well as commuting to affordability to obtain previous said housing preference as a result of recent housing prices outpacing gains in income in the Reno-Sparks area.
