Abstract/Summary:
Coffee Table Movie is a 12 minute experimental animation on digital video that uses humor and postmodern techniques of cinematic and cultural appropriation to reveal the absurdities of human relationships. The loose, stream of consciousness narrative employed in the work is intended to evoke the sensibilities of Surrealist cinema by illustrating the process of thought. In creating a work that is essentially absurdist in orientation I hope to comment on the irony and humor of interpersonal relationships. The ultimate goal of Coffee Table Movie is personal expression. Although intended as a solitary work of art independent from any sculptural or site specific installation, the project as described will be encoded as a DVD disc that will be exhibited as a continuous loop and projected onto a 24 foot screen housed inside a local movie theater.
