Social workers' perceptions of the role of father in the child welfare system

Abstract/Summary:
The purpose of this study was to examine social workers perceptions of the role of father in the child welfare system. The data in this study was collected through self-administered surveys from a sample of 29 social worker students who were receiving a CalSWEC stipend from California State University Long Beach. The researcher developed the instrument used in this study.;Results indicated that there is a need for incorporating better training's in the child welfare system to help social workers effectively work with fathers. The respondents indicated that they did not feel that their employers provided them with the appropriate training's to help them engage the fathers on their caseloads. Results also indicated that a father's presence in a child's life enhances their well-being.
