| The purpose of this case study was to identify the causes of the inability of the Branch Chiefs of the Technical Security Division, United States Secret Service, to successfully fill all Presidential and Vice Presidential assignments by “qualified” personnel within the Technical Security Division. Solutions have been recommended which would be achieved by agreement of the branch chiefs.; Currently, there is no formalized process for Presidential and Vice Presidential trip selection within the Technical Security Division of the United States Secret Service. Trip assignments are currently processed in a haphazard manner by taking an employee without checking with their supervisor to ensure that the employee is, in fact, free from other obligations and that no other conflicts exist. Consequently, some employees are traveling all the time, some not at all and some are traveling only when convenient. A chaotic, unfair environment currently exists with trip selection and it is adversely affecting the morale of the employees and subsequently the productivity within the Division.
