Abstract/Summary:
Accurately assessing employees' skills and knowledge needs, designing and implementing programs based on those needs, and evaluating the success of the programs is at the heart of every training department.;This study uses Vella, Berardinelli, and Burrow's (1998) theory and tools and Kirkpatrick's (1998) four-level model as guides to create and evaluate a behavioural interviewing and selection course for managers in Canada of an international car rental company. Selected literature on needs assessment, program planning, and evaluation was reviewed to provide a theoretical foundation for the study.;Data for the study were gathered by distributing pre and post course surveys, conducting pre and post course interviews and consulting an internal advisory committee and two external experts.;The study affirmed the efficacy of Kirkpartick's (1998) four level model of evaluation as a means of determining the effectiveness of the course to change managers' interviewing and selection behaviour and to improve the proportion of acceptable employees that managers were able to select.
