| Biopotentials are electrical signals generated by the body during conventional activities such as muscle contraction or neurological activity. Analyzing biopotentials from the heart, skeletal muscles and brain have long been an effective and non-invasive strategy to monitor patient health. Historically this involved large devices and bothersome wiring setups, but the current trend in the field is towards wireless systems with non-contact electrode arrays to maximize wearability and comfort during monitoring. This paper presents two custom designed wireless non-contact biopotential sensing systems. The first utilizes a conventional non-contact analog electrode design, and the second a novel non-contact digital electrode. The systems were then characterized and utilized to obtain biopotentials from subjects to assess efficacy. |
