Abstract/Summary:
entrifugal castings of copper alloys originally containing (a) 2 wt.% (7 vol.%) and (b) 3.6 wt.% (13 vol.%) graphite particles (5;The formation of the graphite-rich zone in centrifugal casting of copper alloys containing graphite involves three basic phenomena: (a) movement of the particle and the bubbles to the inner periphery due to centrifugal forces, (b) interaction between the graphite particles and the bubbles, and (c) interaction between the particles and moving solid/liquid interfaces during solidification of casting. In this thesis, models have been proposed for all of the above three phenomena. A new model has been proposed for the critical interface velocity for entrapment of particles by moving solid/liquid interfaces including the effects of the shape of the interface and solute diffusion (Vc = 5800...
