| This research evaluated the laboratory fatigue performance of HMA mixtures designed using the Superpave volumetric mix design and the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) Hveem mix design methods. The influence of the long-term oven aging on the fatigue performance is also evaluated. The various mixtures used in this study were sampled from behind the paver during the construction of contract 2751, 2827 and 2880. As a result of this research Superpave mixtures performed better than Hveem mixtures in contract 2751 and 2880 while the opposite is observed in contract 2827. Additionally a reduction in fatigue life was observed for the unmodified asphalt mixes in general as a result of aging whereas the polymer modified asphalt mixes didn't show any reduction in fatigue resistance. Additionally, two generalized performance models are presented in this thesis, and it was found a significant increase in model accuracy by adding the volumetric term. |
