Abstract/Summary:
Research on ballistic devices for improved performance is constantly expanding. Several such ballistic devices include the ballistic rectifier, Y-branch junction, and three-terminal ballistic junction. The device of major concern here is the novel ballistic deflection transistor. Fabrication of and testing of these ballistic devices can total to large amounts of time and money wasted for small modifications en route to an optimized operation. A cheaper alternative to this method is to use computer simulations.;This thesis will discuss the background info of the device at hand, the BDT, and the process towards correctly simulating such a device. It will also discuss the advantages and limitations of simulation software used: ATLAS TCAD, in particular, the MixedMode module of the software. Recommendations for improving future simulations are also listed.
