This study developed two detailed transportation network models for the downtown Toronto area, namely a GIS-based transit network model and a mid block-based traffic assignment model. In the GIS-based transit network model, each stop and station in the study area was geocoded, and the transit route network was superimposed on the road network under the ArcGIS and TOP environment. The morning peak period transit route timetables were encoded in the transit sub-graph, and the transfers between stops/stations were represented as well. In the mid block traffic assignment model, an experimental procedure was implemented. The entire street network for the study area was modeled and zone-based trips were redistributed to mid block points with the assistance of ArcGIS. A comparative analysis between the zone-based and mid block traffic assignments was conducted.
