Abstract/Summary:
This thesis deals with detailed simulations of an induction motor drive system using P-SpiceRTM schematics. In the front end a three-phase diode bridge is considered whereas for the inverter both six step and sinusoidal pulse width modulated configurations are considered. Accurate loss models are incorporated for dc link inductor and capacitor. Insulated bipolar transistors are used as switching elements in the inverter. P-Spice RTM models of the induction motor are developed both in the stationary and rotating reference frames.;Steady state performance and losses in different parts of the drive system are calculated using the developed models. Supply current harmonics in both types of inverter configurations are studied. Starting and reclosing transients have also been studied for the drive system using the P-SpiceRTM models. This study gives an estimate of the over-voltages and currents in different parts of the system.
