Abstract/Summary:
Population increases and produces a greater demand for water supply. The opportunity for human exposure to wastewater discharged into the environment has increased significantly. Natural safeguards, such as dilution, have been reduced due to the large volume of wastewater discharged into water bodies. Untreated wastewater usually contains numerous pathogenic microorganisms.;Disinfection is necessary to reduce transmission of infectious diseases and to protect the aquatic and human environments. Chlorination has been the most frequently used disinfection practice at water and wastewater treatment plants. The use of proper equipment makes this process simple, effective, and economic.;The water and wastewater tablet feed system proposed, which uses hydraulic eduction and chlorine tablets, is a complete and simple system designed for disinfection. The system was reasonably efficient and reliable disinfection system that possesses a flexible chlorine dosage capability, and is capable of adequately disinfecting waters having coliform densities up to 10 times that of water quality standards.
