| The purpose of this study was to demonstrate that the dome shape structure can survive high magnitude earthquake and hurricanes. The dome structure is a true sphere in shape that has been truncated. The material used for this structure is fiberglass, Fab 10.;Finite element method was used to analyze this structure. Dome house was modeled in FEMAP and NASTRAN was used to perform the analysis.;The wind load, pressure load, on the structure was 200 mph or 100 psf. The resultant stress and displacement indicates that the dome structure will survive a hurricane. The seismic load, "El Centro" earthquake, on the structure had a magnitude of 7.4 in Richter scale. This magnitude earthquake is equal to.77 G's or 297.5 inch per second square. The resultant stress and displacement indicates that the structure can survive in a seismic zone 4. |
