The Double-Helix Bridge is an experimental bridge design concept. It consists of two top arches and two bottom members which are connected intermittently along its length. This design was investigated by two means. First, a steel scale model was manufactured and tested under several loading conditions. Second, several computer models were generated using the SAP90 Finite Element Program. The computer models were analyzed using AASHTO loading and other loading conditions under various support conditions.; The results of the scale and finite element models were compared. Conclusions are given with the goal of providing avenues for further investigation. |
