Abstract/Summary:
Field experiments were conducted in 1996, 1997, and 1998 to determine: (1) the economics and efficacy of using transgenic weed control programs, (2) to compare tillage systems under a conventional and transgenic weed control program, and (3) to determine if transgenic cultivars respond differently than non-transgenic cultivars to existing commonly used herbicides.;Field research was conducted in 1996 and 1997 at two locations in Mississippi to evaluate herbicide programs in Roundup Ready and BXN cotton cultivars based on efficacy and economics.;Field experiments were conducted at the Delta Research and Extension Center near Stoneville, MS; a cooperator's farm near Leland, MS; the North Mississippi Research and Extension Center near Verona, MS; and the Black Belt Branch Experiment Station near Brooksville, MS in 1996 through 1998 to compare weed control programs in Roundup Ready Cotton using glyphosate and conventional herbicides in conventional and reduced tillage systems.;Greenhouse experiments were conducted to evaluate the response of Bt, BXN, and Roundup Ready cotton cultivars, compared to a conventional cultivars, to commonly used herbicides and herbicide combinations when applied to the soil or the foliage of the plant.
