Abstract/Summary:
Maize seedlings up-regulate heat shock protein genes including the small heat shock protein genes, and down-regulate other genes in response to environmental changes. DIG-labeled antisense RNA in situ hybridization revealed that hsp18 mRNA was localized to younger meristematic cells of the root-tip and shoot-tip and also to densely cytoplasmic cells of the vasculature.
