Abstract/Summary:
Animating complex objects that include blending, collision detection and contact modeling is a difficult problem for most animation systems. The success of an animation system depends on the design decisions taken. This includes the techniques chosen for object modeling and motion control and the choice of integrating various processes.; The BlobTree is a data structure for modeling complex implicit objects. The research presented in this thesis extends the BlobTree modeling system to include animation, collision detection and precise contact modeling. A software architecture that integrates the model's data structure with the animation data, in the form of tracks is proposed. This allows the user to create time-varying implicit models, capable of changing their geometric shapes for animation. Various tools that allow the user to view and edit the models and motion in a unified manner, due to this integration, are introduced.; Animation examples illustrating the features described are created.
