Abstract/Summary:
The study of speech pathology services and education in Spanish-speaking countries should function as a reference for speech and language pathologists and students with bi-lingual and/or bi-cultural interests. Data was obtained from the following countries: Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Mexico, Panama, Peru, Puerto Rico, Spain, and Venezuela. The greatest amount of information was obtained from Argentina, Colombia and Spain. The majority of the countries lacked an authoritative body or association that regulated speech and language practice. Membership in professional organizations or associations was optional in most countries. A significant number of academic institutions offering degrees in communication disorders at various academic levels were available. Names and contact information of individuals and facilities providing speech and language services and academic institutions offering degrees in communication disorders were obtained.
