This study was designed to present a review of literature in the following areas: (a) the relationship of thought and language, (b) language as a cognitive tool, (c) speech and language services in the schools, and (d) a discussion of the linguistic basis of various learning disabilities. A researcher-designed Likert scale was administered to a sample of 67 anonymous regular education teachers. The survey provided statistical results regarding the teachers' ability to recognize students who have speech and language difficulties, teachers' knowledge of school-based speech and language services, and teachers' awareness of how to access the services for their students who need them. |
