It was the purpose of this study to examine the marches contained in the Goldman Band Library housed at The University of Iowa. An examination of these marches was made to determine the following: What marches are listed in the Goldman Band Library Catalog? What marches remain in the Goldman Band Library? What marches are missing from the Goldman Band library? What is the current condition, usability, and availability of these marches? Who were the march composers of the marches contained in the Goldman Band Library? Who were the most prolific? What marches of the Goldman Band Library were composed by Edwin Franko Goldman? Who were the march arrangers of the Goldman Band Library? Who were the most prolific? Who published the marches of the Goldman Band Library? What is the range of difficulty of marches contained in the Goldman Band Library? What are the most frequently used key signatures and meters of the marches contained in the Goldman Band Library? What marches of the Goldman Band Library were dedicated and to whom were they dedicated? What marches are contained in the Encore Books of the Goldman Band Library? Which are not listed in the P or PP classifications? How many times were the marches in the Goldman Band Library performed?;An examination of the marches of the Goldman Band Library provided the following information: Classification number, title, composer, arranger, publisher, publication date, key, meter, style, difficulty, dedication, condition, instrumentation, usability, and availability.;Currently, the Goldman Band Library lists a total of 898 different compositions filed under classifications P, PP, and [P. At the time of this study, 788 were available for examination and 110 compositions were missing from the collection. Six hundred fifty two (652) marches are still useable. A total of 348 different march composers are represented in the Goldman Band Library. The most frequent march composer is Edwin Franko Goldman, with 120 different compositions listed. One hundred seventeen (117) different march arrangers are represented in the Goldman Band Library, with Erik W. Leidzen listed as the most frequent with 54 arrangements.
