Abstract/Summary:
C.S. Lewis wrote a series of myths called The Chronicles of Narnia. He has been criticized by certain critics for his treatment of female characters in these books. This study explores the man C.S. Lewis, the genre in which he wrote the Chronicles of Narnia, and the actual female characters he created. The criticism of Lewis's treatment of female characters is challenged by an investigation into the development of these characters in the series. The conclusion is drawn that many critics have misinterpreted Lewis's Chronicles of Narnia and in fact Lewis developed strong, complex, and uniquely independent women in his fiction.
