When the first book,The Lion,the Witch and the Wardrobe published in 1950,it has received largely popularity all around the world.C.S.Lewis then accomplished the other six books at the following six years,and so the excellent fantasy novel comes to its day.The popularity of The Chronicles of Narnia gets the attention of scholars home and abroad,and there are many monographs about The Chronicles of Narnia emerging in the following forty years after Lewis' death.Studies and researches on The Chronicles of Narnia are getting more and more popular.This thesis aims to explore the initiation theme in The Chronicles of Narnia,and it is divided into three parts: the introduction part,the main body and the conclusion part.Its main contents are as follows:The introduction provides information about C.S.Lewis and his work The Chronicles of Narnia,together with a comprehensive literature review.The body falls into three sections: chapter one is all about the core of initiation in The Chronicles of Narnia,that is,growth.In this chapter,it focuses on heroes' adventures and growth in each Narnia series of novels so as to dig out their common growth in morality,emotion and survival.Hence growth is an indispensable part of children's lives.Chapter two emphasizes the true value of initiation in The Chronicles of Narnia,which focuses on the diverse love underlying in the series.Agape reflected in the nature of Aslan,his holiness and tolerance,and of course his impartial benevolence are all through the whole series;fraternity is also reflected in the quest of heroes.Those are different forms of love that are the main string of the series.Chapter three discusses the authentic nature of initiation in The Chronicles of Narnia,which focuses on the game spirit in the series,and in this chapter,the game of freedom,the game of exploration and the game of creation will be analyzed respectively.And finally goes to a conclusion that as a fantastic initiation series,TheChronicles of Narnia embodies the three essential initiation elements respectively,that is,growth,the power of love,and game spirit.
