Abstract/Summary:
Brownfelds cleanup and redevelopment is a relatively new area of interest for federal and local governments in the United States. In the past eight years, the federal Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has made brownfields redevelopment a high priority. This thesis is a summary of current federal brownfield legislation and a comparison and evaluation of certain aspects of policy implementation in Nevada, California and Arizona. The three states analyzed in this thesis are making brownfields cleanup and redevelopment a priority as well. All three go above and beyond the minimum requirements of the EPA. However, more policy could be adopted and implemented in order to successfully prioritize brownfields for redevelopment.
