Abstract/Summary:
The purpose of this study was to determine the best way to help students achieve mastery of key concepts through a comparison of traditional instructional design and in-depth instructional design. The study also incorporated learning styles considerations to meet the needs of all learners in the classroom. This study compared mastery of concepts learned in two instruction units in eighth grade US History. The study showed that when curriculum is designed for depth of understanding over breadth of the traditional curriculum, student mastery is positively impacted.
