The impact of quality relationships within a suburban school district as a learning organization

This quantitative research project investigated beliefs and attitudes regarding the importance of developing positive interpersonal relationships across the learning organization to support student success. These attitudes were measured through the use of original surveys developed by the researcher and completed by persons representing each audience within the learning organization. Those audiences included students, staff and parents of the suburban school district that was the focus of the study. The surveys were distributed during the winter of 1999. Three surveys were developed in an attempt to address these 11 hypotheses.; The target population of this study consisted of faculty, administration, support staff, students grades 5--12 and parents of the school district. Fifty percent of each group within the target population were randomly selected as the sample population, with the exception of the parents. The sample population for parents was 20%.; The responses to the statements on each survey were examined to determine the extent to which the respondents agreed or disagreed with each statement. Descriptive statistics were used to determine the frequency of response for each question. Each hypothesis was tested for frequency of response and statistical differences between groups. Hypotheses 1, 4, 5, and 8 were analyzed using a T-test on means to determine if a statistical difference occurred by staff and parents or in question 5 staff and students. A one-way analysis of variance was used for hypotheses 2, 3, and 9 to determine if there was a significant difference between staff, parents and students. Hypotheses 6, 7, 10, and 11 each addressed only one group and therefore were analyzed through descriptive statistics.
