Abstract/Summary:
The purpose of this research was to investigate the extent of Computer-Assisted Instruction (CAI) in the secondary school (middle school and high school) music curricula in Los Angeles and Orange Counties. A questionnaire has been sent to randomly selected secondary school music teachers in Los Angeles and Orange County Unified School District to identify the types of computer applications. Secondary school music instructor that has successful CAI programs, that is, having implemented CAI to teach subjects such as music composition, aural skills, music appreciation, and music fundamentals, has been further studied by means of a personal interview to find out the process of implementation. This study will suggest appropriate instructional model(s) for implementing the CAI into the music curricula at the secondary level.; The results from the questionnaire suggest that effective implementation of technology is still lacking in the secondary school music curricula in the Los Angeles and Orange County School District. One of the biggest obstacles in implementing technology into music classrooms seems to be a lack of financial resources.
