Abstract/Summary:
In a manner unlike other modern major metropolitan areas the development of cultural awareness and support in Los Angeles occurred concurrently with the development of photographic practice in the region. The simultaneous growth of the city of Los Angeles, the perceived need by its citizens for visual culture education, and the rapid technical and artistic advances of photography lead to an easy integration of photographic practice into the general fabric of life in the city, and the initial acceptance of photography as an art form worthy of inclusion within the programming strategy of the Los Angeles County Museum Of History, Science, And Art.
