Abstract/Summary:
This study investigated the effects of computer-assisted instruction (CAI) in mathematics on the academic achievement of middle school students.; The subjects of this study included fifteen, 7th grade students and fifteen, 8th grade students. The students who scored 30% or lower in the Stanford Star 9 (SS9) testing were placed in the CAI New Century class.; The analysis of the effectiveness of CAI was based on the following measures: first and second semester mathematic class grades, New Century class first and second semester grade level gains, and 1999--2000 SS9 test scores.; The results revealed a significant gain in the New Century grade level advancement and mathematics class grade point average. However, in the SS9 test scores there was a slight decrease in student scores. Overall, the CAI New Century Class assisted student achievement in two of the three areas of multiple measures.
