Abstract/Summary:
When an individual suffers a stroke, the damage that can occur is far reaching. In the case of the participant in this case study, the loss focused around his literacy skills. It was determined that the participant was suffering from Aphasia. The participant worked with a student, studying to be a reading specialist. Tutoring sessions were held three days a week for one year. Informal assessments were administered at the beginning of the study, during the study, and at the conclusion, as well as a final group of assessments being administered one year after the tutoring sessions were concluded. A significant amount of growth was attained. A wide variety of strategies were used to attain this degree of growth. The strategies included, both reading with and reading to the participant, a creative writing program, and word study.
