Abstract/Summary:
This thesis addresses the study and implementation of an integrated mathematics and art curriculum in a fifth grade bilingual class at Cesar Chavez Elementary School. In addition, the results from students working together with the teacher as co-researchers are also studied. The outcome and the results achieved through this partnership are reviewed throughout the study including the designing and painting of the final project, a mural.;This research revealed that this was a positive experience for students and teacher. Together they developed several experimental art and fraction activities. From one of these activities, students chose the theme for the mural. Fractions and art were integrated during the planning, designing, and painting of the mural. The data collected from discussions and students' work showed evidence that students not only improved their knowledge of fractions and art but became more self-confident.
