In the current pedagogical practices, the teaching of Chinese reading, especially the reading of modern articles, accounts for a quite large proportion of Chinese education. It is an essential way for students to expand knowledge and understand the world while serving as a channel for enhancing their language achievement and learning confidence. Also, it carries a key role in cultivating students’ noble sentiment with emotional education. For junior high students whose outlook on life, world and values is still taking shape, the significance of reading is self-evident. In order to truly apply reading and the teaching of reading as an important way for students to develop their knowledge, intelligence, aesthetics and morals, teachers should focus on the guidance of cultural awareness in the teaching of modern article reading and direct students to understand how to read and learn. This paper mainly discusses the option and construction of modern article reading in Chinese education of junior high school from the perspective of cultivating students’ cultural awareness. By analyzing the current teaching of modern article reading in junior high school, this paper seeks to construct an applicable way of inspiring cultural awareness while teaching how to read modern articles from a cultural vision. The paper consists of three parts. Part One is an introduction that briefly explains why comes this study and how is the problem currently, while defining the scope of research. Part Two is the paper’s main body, which is divided into three chapters. Chapter I digs into the reason for current inefficient teaching of teaching and confirms the necessity of cultivating students’ multi-cultural awareness, according to the analysis on the current teaching of modern article reading in junior high school; Chapter II classifies the principles of guiding cultural awareness in the teaching of modern texts in junior high school by discussing the definition of cultural awareness; and Chapter III is the key part of the paper aiming to solve the above-mentioned problem. This Chapter analyzes the design and practices of cultural awareness guidance as well as how to deal with the assignment of guiding cultural awareness based on the outline of classroom teaching by exploring cultural awareness, and at last it gives examples of cultural awareness guidance for reference. Part Three is the conclusion of the paper. This section outlines the unresolved difficulties in the process of research with a hope for the future of Chinese language education.
