Abstract/Summary:
This paper attempts to comprise an integrated list of JIT purchasing practices. JIT purchasing practices are divided into three groups: operational, supplier-buyer relationship development, and organizational. Next, it examines the impact of these practices on firm performance, which is defined in four dimensions: quality, cost, productivity and lead-time. It is predicted that plants having a JIT purchasing program perform better than those without it. This study also explores the influence of firm size and ownership type on the implementation level of JIT purchasing, as well as on the relationship between JIT purchasing and firm performance. Firm size and ownership type have the potential to affect a plant in terms of resources available and the regulations it is subjected to, especially in the case of Vietnam.;54 companies located in Vietnam are interviewed. The research findings indicate that firm size and ownership type indeed affect the extent of implementation of JIT purchasing practices for firms in Vietnam. However, it appears that JIT purchasing does not have a significant impact on all dimensions of firm performance. (Abstract shortened by UMI.).
